Clan Munro Badge

Clan Munro Crest

The Munro badge, as depicted here, with a rampant golden eagle, leather belt with buckle and the clan motto is able to be worn by all members of the clan and is known as “The Clansman’s Badge”. When used in stationery, it should have a banner underneath explaining the use. For example “Clan Munro Association Australia & New Zealand”

The eagle is common in heraldry but the Munro Chiefs are unusual in having eagles for charge on the shield, crest and supporters. This may derive from a play on the name of their lands ‘Foulis’ and “fowls of the air”.

Shown below is the Personal Arms of Munro of Foulis, Chief of Clan Munro and can only be used by our Chief, Hector Munro of Foulis. It cannot be reproduced without our Chief’s authority.

Plant badges are also associated with clans, and may be worn in the bonnet or lapel; the origin of these is also obscure but they may have been used as a form of identification. The Munro plant badge is Common Club Moss.
