Decision CRTC 89-765 |
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation |
Haliburton, Ontario - 881303200 |
Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region on 27 June 1989, the Commission approves the application for a licence for an FM radio broadcasting transmitting undertaking at Haliburton on the frequency 92.3 MHz, channel 222LP, with an effective radiated power of 50 watts to rebroadcast the programming of the CBC's English-language AM radio network originating from CBL Toronto. The Commission will issue a licence expiring 31 August 1994, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued. |
The Commission notes that the use of this new FM frequency conforms with the guidelines set out in Public Notice CRTC 1983-22 dated 7 February 1983. It further notes that CBLY Haliburton currently rebroadcasts the CBC English-language AM network service to Haliburton and surrounding area. Because of long-standing technical interference to CBLY's reception, in order to improve service to the Haliburton area, the CBC has submitted this application to operate a new FM transmitter. In addition, the owner of the leased premises where the transmitter is located has asked the CBC to vacate the site. The CBC has indicated that it intends to shut down CBLY within six months of the date on which the new FM transmitter becomes operational, once it has determined that this region is being adequately served by the new transmitter. The Commission expects the CBC to cease the operation of CBLY within this time frame and to inform listeners of the changes herein approved. |
The Department of Communications (DOC) has advised the Commission that this proposal is technically acceptable, but that issuance of a Technical Construction and Operating Certificate is conditional on the resolution of any problems involving interference to aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
In accordance with paragraph 13(1)(b) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from DOC that it will issue a Technical Construction and Operating Certificate. |
