Welcome To Curtis Cox's Distance Running Site (original) (raw)

run early in the morning, with three of her friends. As his uncle's wife and her friends were all female and easy targets for early morning predators, Curtis and his cousin would accompany them on their morning runs as "bodyguards". Curtis and his cousin would run a few miles after the ladies were finished with their workout and he always felt he could do a lot more miles without feeling tired. As a result, with less than one month of training, he entered the Guinness Tobago Half Marathon and placed twenty-third. In nineteen eighty six (1986), approximately eight years after his vow never to run again and less than a year after leaving high school, he began his distance running exploits. Tobago was not very prevalent in distance racing, with only about five races per year, therefore, in nineteen eighty nine (1989), Curtis decided to leave Tobago and made his transition to the neighbour and much larger island, Trinidad, to race more often and improve his performance.

Curtis has competed in numerous distance races on the track and on the road, ranging from 5000M to Marathon. He has ran over thirty marathons and won his first marathon in Manitoba, Canada in the year two thousand (2000), with a time of 2hrs 30mins 53secs. He has been named Road Runner of the year four times and has represented his country regionally and internationally.

Curtis is an inspiration to the young people of his country and he is also inspired by many individuals involved in sports. Now at the age of fourty two, he continues to be an avid runner, as his love for running helps him to stay healthy, fit, young and energetic. One of his biggest inspirations in running competition is representing the Red, Black and White of his country’s flag. Curtis aspires to achieve greatness for his country and in his personal life through his running.
