**There are many more DAB car radios on sale. Why are they not all listed here?**Only receivers known to receive DAB+ are listed on this page. Virtually ANY DAB radio will receive DAB in the UK. The purpose of this page is to show you which radios will continue to work when you drive your car outside the country. DAB+ is now in use in several countries, and France has adopted DMB-A. If you buy carefully, you can be sure that your car radio will continue to work when you drive off the ferry. This page lists both "add-on" units that enable DAB+ reception on "DAB ready" receivers and "adaptors" that deliver the audio signal to an existing FM receiver, either by means of an AUX audio connection, or by modulating the DAB audio onto an FM carrier. |

Some of the radios on this page (the ones so marked) will also receive the system selected as the official standard for France. It has far too many names! DMB, DMB-Radio, DMB-R, DMB-A and DMB-Audio are some of the technical ones. France refers to its digital radio services, collectively as Radio Numerique Terrestre, but that alone doesn't explicitly define a technical standard. If France chose to use DAB+, then RNT would apply equally to those broadcasts. From a consumer's point of view, what the letters RNT tell us is that if a retailer describes a receiver as being suitable to receive RNT, then that MUST include DMB-A, since that is currently the only standard officially permitted (test transmissions excepted). Pure have advised Wohnort that DMB-A capable versions of their receivers are sold only in France. Be aware that certain French websites such as amazon.fr source some of their radios from the UK. This is especially true of some of amazon.fr's third-party vendors. The affected products will generally be described as "Import Royaume-Uni", but the buyer should be alert in any case. One last thing, just when you thought you'd finally gotten your head around all those abbreviations, and were now happy that the little DMB receiver you had spotted in Korea would be OK to take back with you to France. It won't. DMB Radio uses the AAC codec. In Korea, their DMB services use BSAC. Caveat emptor! I hope the guidance on these pages will be useful to you. |

Pure
Pure Digital is a division of British company Imagination Technologies Group plc and is the number one supplier of DAB radios in the UK. Pure have withdrawn L-band capability from most of their products, including some which previously supported L-band, such as the Classic and the Elite. You should therefore assume with Pure that L-band will not be received. As a general rule, all Pure radios shipped outside the UK, including to the Republic of Ireland, are DAB+ capable out of the box. Within the UK, Pure radios will generally not be capabable of receiving DAB+. Exceptions to this rule are those models that have internet capability. These models will be DAB+ capable in the UK, because the necessary royalties have to be paid anyway. Note that where a firmware upgrade is required, that upgrade may not be free of charge. A DAB+ receiver should be explicitly labelled on the box. Wohnort's Rule: "If it doesn't say DAB+ on the box, it probably isn't DAB+ in the box." Wohnort commends this manufacturer's policy of making instruction manuals available for download prior to purchase.
