One-off documentary Jack: A Soldier's Story received little interest on Wednesday night, according to early ratings figures.

The piece - first shown on BBC Three - followed 24-year-old soldier Jack Mizon as he returned from fighting in Afghanistan and attempted to readjust to regular life in the UK. Broadcast in the prime 9pm slot on BBC One on Wednesday, it managed just 2.19m (10.1%).

ITV1 comfortably triumphed in the slot with 4.73m (21.7%) for Cops With Cameras, while on BBC Two, Heroes brought in 2.11m (9.6%). Spinoff show Heroes Unmasked had 1.2m (5.7%) at 9.45pm, then BBC Three's premiere of the next episode had the best multichannel audience of the day with 919k (5.6%).

The concluding part of civil war drama The Devil's Whore put in 1.83m (8.4%) for Channel 4 at 9pm. Over four weeks, the programme, which stars John Simm and Dominic West, has averaged a decent 2.08m (9.1%). Five was last in the 9pm slot with 691k (3.2%) for Dangerous Adventures For Boys.

At 10pm Desperate Housewives picked up 1.31m (7.8%) for Channel 4 and on Five, documentary The Cheryl Cole Factor delivered 1.25m (7.4%).

The Bill brought in a healthy 5.56m (24%) to ITV1 in the 8pm hour and on BBC Two, the penultimate episode of Oceans drew a strong 2.63m (11.3%). Little Dorrit put in 3.44m (15%) for BBC One, then just 2.03m (8.7%) were Wild About Your Garden.

1.82m (7.9%) tuned in for Channel 4's The Home Show and Five's Combat Chefs had 1.13m (4.9%).

Coronation Street had the best audience of the day overall, with 8.92m (40.6%) at 7.30pm. Emmerdale was second with 6.97m (33.6%).

Hollyoaks logged 1.87m (9.3%) for Channel 4 at 6.30pm, then 697k (3.8%) for E4 at 7pm (+1: 193k, 1%). On Five, Neighbours had 1.53m (9.6%) and Home & Away had 1.14m (6.1%).

ITV1 led primetime with an overall share of 24.4% (last week: 33.4%). BBC One was a distant second with just 14.7% (15.3%), while BBC Two had 8.3% (8.1%). Channel 4 was fourth with 6.9% (5.9%), followed by Five on 4.3% (4%).
