My copy sounds excellent. No noise at all except maybe the quietest pop near the beginning of Starless.
I was very disappointed with this exact pressing (cut by JASDAFACE). Contrary to the previous albums from the same run of original tapes approved by Fripp, cut by JONZ, this one is borderline unlistenable.
It's mastered SO loud that some sections end up very crammed and distorted, with no clarity whatsoever, except for Providence and maybe some sections in Starless. Also, gone is the beloved dynamic range; this master is heavily compressed.
I'm surprised no one has brought up this issue yet (maybe my copy is defective?), but I would be very glad to know if someone has found a difference between the JASDAFACE and JONZ cuts.
Very visible groove modulations when the violin goes hot on track one and serious distortions during two moments there but once thats done the vinyl is quiet and flat and centered and it does come alive sounding excellent! Better than the black versions or the CD/Dvd issues? No. Noice to have on very appropriate red vinyl all the same? Yes!
My copy has the same identifiers except for :
Matrix / Runout (Runout side A, stamped): ISL 6396035 1 380 CIDIS A 13 (instead of A2)
Matrix / Runout (Runout side B, stamped): ISL 6396035 2 380 CIDIS B 13 (instead of A2)

I would disagree... On my system this pressing is quite lacking in the low end. I have a biamped system, so occasionally if I want to boost the lows (God Forbid any EQ! 😲) I just increase the amp driving the 2-15" dipole woofers, which is what I did here. With that it doesn't sound too bad, but I would probably be on the lookout for a better pressing.
What I'm listening on 😊

***EDIT
It just now went to the second song on side two which is mellower at the start and has far less congestion. I'd say on my system with the 2nd amp bumped up 1 notch, actually the sound and dynamics overall do sound pretty good!
Not a bad pressing for an unofficial pressing, IMO. It's a bit heavy on the treble, but it adds to the dissonance. If you can, pick this up, because there's no way you'll find an adequately priced album for the same price you'd find this one (I found it for 10 eur).

Balancing out the one negative review here. I’ve never heard another pressing, but this one sounds great to me. A very raw and heavy record that translates well to vinyl. It’s been said many times before, but, my god, what a masterpiece. The sheer power of every song makes me shake my head in disbelief.

Compared to an original US I own this version is cut a bit louder. Both are dynamic as hell though and clarity is about equal. Can't recommend this press enough if you're having trouble finding a clean OG
To me, this version of red on cd is pretty damn good. I know some people who don't like the 1989 "definitive edition" remastered releases of the albums on cd. But, this one and larks I have and there pretty good. Nicely balance and dynamic, just the way I like it. To me, worth the cheap price I paid for.Have:40070
