Newspaper Articles Newspaper Articles Whitehaven Herald Article from the Whitehaven Herald, 9th April 1853 Accident at Wellington Pit On Saturday last, an inquest was opened by Wm. Lumb, Esq., at the sign of the Manx Smack, on the West Strand, on the body of a man named Benjamin Corvie, who was employed in attending to the horses in Wellington Pit. The inquest was adjourned to Tuesday last, when it was proved by the only witness present, that the deceased had received a kick on the abdomen from a horse, by which he was so much injured that he died on the following day about seven o'clock.
