Newspaper Articles Newspaper Articles 7th April 1894 Serious Accident At William Pit On Thursday, two men named respectively Joseph Andrews and Robert Beck, were driving a drift in William Pit, Whitehaven, when a fall of rock took place, and both were injured. On being taken to the Whitehaven and West Cumberland Infirmary, it was found that Andrews' leg was broken, and it had to be amputated. Beck sustained injuries to his head and arm, and after receiving the necessary attention was able to leave the Infirmary. Newspaper transcript kindly provided byWest Cumbria Mines Research.
