Veteran Miner Could Fill 100 Tubs A Shift
A veteran miner, Thomas Milburn, Bedford Street, Hensingham, Whitehaven, who, in the prime of his career, was reputed to be able to fill 100 tubs a shift, died at his home on Friday at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his wife 10 weeks ago, and is survived by a family of eight sons, three of whom are in the forces and another in America.
Mr. Milburn started work in 1868 at Croft Pit, remaining there until 1876, when he went to the Stirling Mines, Cleator Moor. After working there for 40 years he transferred to Ladysmith Pit, Whitehaven, where he worked until his retirement.
Mr. Milburn was buried in Hensingham Cemetery after a service conducted by the Rev. F. Gibson, in St. Johns Church on Monday.
