Commenced work at Powel Tillery Pits, Abertillery, Mon., after leaving school, at age of 14 years. Secured scholarship Ruskin College, Oxford, 1909-1910. Returned to Mines 1911. Appointed Miners' Agent, Garw Valley District South Wales Miners' Federation, 1912. Appointed Secretary Miners' Federation of Great Britain, 1919. Appointed Secretary of the International Miners' Federation. 1920.

Hodges, Frank. Civil Lord of the Admiralty in Labour Cabinet. Resigned Secretaryship, Miners' Federation of Great Britain, Jan. 31st, on appointment as Civil Lord of Admiralty. Born Woolaston, Gloucester, 1887. Commenced work at Powell Tillery Pits, Abertillery, Mon., after leaving school at age of 14 years. Secured scholarship Ruskin College, Oxford, 1909 to 1910. Returned to mines, 1911. Appointed Miners' Agent, Garw Valley South Wales Miners' Federation, 1912. Appointed Secretary, Miners' District Federation of Great Britain, 1919. Appointed Permanent General Secretary of the International Miners' Federation, 1924 (resigned 1926). Vice-Chairman, National Fuel and Power Committee, 1926. Is also a Justice of the Peace. Appointed member of the Central Electricity Board, 1926. Director, L. & N. Distillation, Ltd. Private Address : Flat 7, 31, Buckingham Gate, S.W.1.
