The Mount is a vibrant cultural center inspired by the life and work of Edith Wharton, where history, creativity, and nature converge. Located in Lenox, Massachusetts, it engages readers, writers, artists, families, and lifelong learners through author talks, exhibitions, house tours, educational programs, writer residencies, and a landscape designed for reflection and discovery.
Born into New York high society in 1862, Edith Wharton defied convention to become one of America’s leading literary voices and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize. Best known for her novels, she also wrote influential works on design and gardens, and was a committed humanitarian who played an important role in World War I relief efforts.
The Summer Author Series brings award-winning biographers to The Mount to celebrate voices that have reshaped the public imagination—figures who challenged dominant narratives and used art, ideas, and activism to offer new ways of seeing the world.
