MIPS Technologies 74K Block Diagram

The MIPS32 74K core family is a fully synthesizable processor that exceeds 1.5 GHz performance in a standard 40nm G process using generic, commercially-available standard cells, memories and EDA design flows. The 74K core family is based on MIPS Technologies' superscalar microarchitecture with out- of-order instruction dispatch.

The embedded microarchitecture incorporates the MIPS DSP Application Specific Extension (ASE) Rev2. These instructions, coupled with a dual -issue 74K microarchitecture, can boost signal processing performance up to 60% when compared to RISC implementations with the original DSP ASE in previous generation architectures. Software development tools, the MIPS DSP Library, and a third party DSP applications network support the 74K core family. The core IP (intellectual property) is available in versions with (74Kf core) or without (74Kc core) floating point unit support. The 74K core family targets applications requiring increased processing power, including H.264, 802.11n, WiMAX and Blu-ray Disc.
