Douglas is located in southern Marshall County in the northeastern part of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

History

First settled in the mid-nineteenth century, Douglas was primarily a farming community for most of its history. Its first school was built in 1898, and the Douglas Academy was built in 1909. The first elementary school was built in 1921, the first junior high in 1926, and the first high school in 1932. Its first water system was built in 1966, and the town incorporated in 1978.

Demographics

According to 2020 Census estimates, Douglas recorded a population of 1,076. Of that number, 95.4 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 5.5 percent as Hispanic or Latino, and 2.5 percent as two or more races. The town's median household income was 48,750,andthepercapitaincomewas48,750, and the per capita income was 48,750,andthepercapitaincomewas19,023.

• Transportation and warehousing and utilities (3.7 percent)
• Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and extractive (3.5 percent)
• Wholesale trade (3.5 percent)
• Finance, insurance, and real estate, rental, and leasing (1.2 percent)

Education

Schools in Douglas are part of the Marshall County school system; the town has one primary school, one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school.

Transportation

State Highway 75 bisects Douglas running northeast-southwest, and State Highway 168 bisects the town running east-west.

Events and Places of Interest

Douglas holds a Community Festival annually in March. It also maintains a sports complex that has baseball/softball fields.
