How is peace mediation established in the foreign policy context of Germany?
The analysis of this topic is a central research and transfer area at the Viadrina Center for Peace Mediation. Situated primarily in the environment of the third-party funded research project 'Mediation Hub of the European University Viadrina at the Federal Foreign Office', it provides a continuous comparison between methodological approaches, academic reflection and the realities of political processes.

A social science lab for research-based learning
In the SKILL project, researchers from the European New School of Digital Studies (ENS), the Viadrina Center for Teaching and Learning (ZLL) and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are building and applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to recognize, analyze and visualize the structure of argumentation in scholarly articles and political arenas.
Social practice and language in cross-border peripheries
The joint project "Linking Borderlands" focuses on the dynamics of cross-border peripheries and compares the two European border regions Greater Region Saarland/Lorraine and Brandenburg/Lubuskie. The linguistic project “Communicative Borderlands: social practice and language in the vocational training context" at the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION and at Saarland University analyses how trainees act communicatively and how the political framework and ideas are realized in cross-border vocational training at work and in vocational schools.

Transformation in Poland and East Germany
The project “Transformation in Poland and East Germany. Barriers to modernisation in science and the economy” fills existing gaps in research on the origins and still lasting consequences of efforts at modernisation in East Germany and the barriers that they faced. It includes comparisons with West Germany and with other countries of East Central Europe. For the first time, modernisation processes in business and science, as well as their outcomes and consequences, will be comprehensively analysed using historical, sociological, economic and political science methods.
