Saint Seiya Omega Episode #02 Anime Review (original) (raw)

Based on the original manga by Masami Kurumada, Saint Seiya Omega comes to us courtesy of Toei Animation. Given how old the franchise actually is, I believe that was a good idea. If they can pull it off. Two episodes in, I’m still waiting.

What They Say:
Saints are champions of hope who have always appeared since the Age of Myth whenever evil threatens the world. They would clad themselves in armor called Cloths, and fight to protect Athena, the goddess who rules the world’s surface. Seiya the Pegasus Saint has saved Athena many times, and while he and his friends are Bronze Saints, which is the lowest rank, their battles have been passed down as legend.

The god of war and guardian of his namesake planet, Mars, was once sealed away by Seiya, but time has passed and his revival is at hand. Meanwhile, Saori Kido (Athena) is raising the boy Kouga, whose life Seiya saved, and he’s been training every day to become a Saint in order to prepare for the coming crisis… Unaware of his destiny, when Kouga awakens to the power of his Cosmo hidden inside him, the curtain will rise upon the legend of a new Saint!

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of the review may contain spoilers)
After failing to protect Athena, Koga looks after his injured trainer Shina. Feeling helpless with himself and his power as a Saint, Koga leaves his island to train. In the country, he immediately runs into Lionet Soma, a Saint in control of Fire. Through the hot-blooded young man, he learns of the elements that each Saint can control.

This episode serves as an introduction to the first Saint Koga comes across, Soma. He is a cheerful kid if a bit of a jokester. He has his own bone to pick with Mars’ army in addition to now helping Koga. After the two defeat a minion of Mars, he agrees to help Koga reach the Palaestra; A place of learning established by Athena. Overall, It is hard to say if they will go anywhere with this character but, he should be a fun member of the cast.

More importantly, with Soma’s help, Koga shows more progress in controlling his Cosmo. Enough progress to catch the eye of Mars once again.

In Summary:
With the number of episodes in Omega being unknown as this point, it is hard to see where this series is going. If it is twelve, we have about 800 Saints to introduce over seven episodes, leaving just enough time for the final battle. If we’re looking at a longer series, Omega has potential. Two episodes in, the show is quite average as we march through the introductions of the Saints. It even lacks eye candy (things go boom, techniques, hot blooded speeches)!

P.S. Shina is lovely. From her design to Mami Koyoma’s voice. I’m in love.
