Brendan McNamara, the director of SCEE's multi-million selling London gangster title The Getaway, has set up a new development studio in Sydney, Australia, which will work on titles for new Sony game hardware.

Team Bondi, as the studio is named, is made up primarily of former members of the Getaway team from SCEE's Soho studio in London, and has an exclusive publishing deal with SCEA.

The team has already been in place for six months, doing technical research for a new original title, which is to appear on what's somewhat ambiguously described as "third generation PlayStation" hardware - which probably means the PS3, but could equally mean the PSP.

"Itâs nice to be home after so many years abroad," commented McNamara, "and working on an exciting third generation PlayStation title. Itâs made the transition so much easier having some of my friends from The Getaway team here with me and we are all looking forward to the massive challenge of the new title we are planning."

A second Getaway title is in the works at Team Soho, with Naresh Hirani performing directorial duties on the game, and is expected to be released late this year - with a public debut for the title at E3 in May.
