Glen Matlock Review, Hoboken, N.J. – Eliot Wien (original) (raw)

It’s Eliot from New York City. Well, last night was amazing. I had a chance to hang out with Glen Matlock before last nights performance at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, N.J. I walked over to him, and said my name is Eliot Wien, and he recognized my name , and said “Hey, you’re the one that reviewed my CD on my website”. He thanked me, and we talked about The Crystal Palace performance, and how John Lydon didn’t know the words to “My Way”, and I mentioned to him that I thought “Silver Machine” was a great song that The Pistols performed. He also shared with me that his biggest influence is Ronnie Laine from “The Faces”.

I mentioned to him that Ian McLagan played at this exact place about a year ago. He wa impressed. The funny thing though was that he recognized my friend that was with me. My friend is Elektra and Apple Recording artist David Peel. David’s an original punk from the late 60’s that had albums like “Have A Marijuana” & “The Pope Smokes Dope” produced by John Lennon. David was a part of The Elektra Records tour in the late 60’s that included MC5, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, and David Peel & The Lower East Side. Glen said “David Peel – The Pope Smokes Dope!” & they shook hands and everyone took photos of both of them together.

I will be forwarding pictures to you shortly. Other Sex Pistols like John Lydon are fans of David Peel. John had David Peel appear twice on his EYADA internet radio program. Well anyway, here’s the review from Last night’s show…….
Glen Matlock & The Philistines at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey – May 18, 2006
Here we stand in the town that Frank Sinatra was born and raised in – Hoboken, New Jersey. Yes the man that originally brought “My Way” to our attention. Well, tonight we have an original Sex Pistol visiting Frankie’s town to do it HIS WAY! This aint no Dion Warwick concert, it’s Glen Matlock! He took the stage at about 10:00PM. This was a big return to the New York/New Jersey area for Glen Matlock. He didn’t waste any time, and hit the stage and never stopped. Here’s the set list for last night’s performance:

Who’s Side are you on?

After the show, Glen and the band hung around and was talking and taking pictures with fans and friends. Trust me when I say, “Whenever there’s a Pistol in our area – The City is ALIVE!” – Eliot Wien, NYC
