Like every other Democratic candidate running in a swing state, Senator Mark Kelly faced formidable challenges in 2022. The President drew sharp criticism, inflation raged, crime rates jumped and Arizona took center stage in the immigration crisis. Early polling suggested a tight election.

In New Hampshire, Senator Maggie Hassan sought re-election to a second term in the U.S. Senate against challenger Don Bolduc. In 2016, Hassan had won by just 1,017 votes, representing the tightest margin of any Senate race that cycle.

An incumbent Pittsburgh mayor had never lost an election. Up against a huge cash advantage and the backing of Pittsburgh’s powerful business and developer community, State Representative Ed Gainey began his run to deny incumbent Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto a third term as an underdog.

Congresswoman Susan Wild was facing a much tougher race for reelection in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District than she had experienced before. With a midterm environment where the incumbent president’s party typically fares poorly, and an opponent worth nearly half a billion dollars that would potentially allow her to self-fund millions of dollars with ease, most race rating organizations rated Wild’s district as Lean Republican.

In PA-08, a district that voted for Trump twice, Congressman Matt Cartwright faced a challenging race for reelection. In a tough midterm environment for Democrats, Cartwright needed to demonstrate broad appeal to win over both Trump and Biden voters against two-time challenger Jim Bognet.

State Representative Summer Lee started the race for the open 12th Congressional District primary as the prohibitive frontrunner. She sported a strong, well-defined brand in the district. No one else running had a profile in the district. Still, because of her record as a progressive and someone who stood up to powerful corporate special interests, money began flowing in to stop Summer.

GQR's digital program blended with an already-impressive campaign and network of supporters to lead the Attorney General to an astounding near-15-point victory.

Ohio State House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes faced an uphill challenge in Ohio’s redrawn 13th Congressional District. In a majority white district, Sykes was running to become the first Black woman to represent the 13th in a midterm environment that many thought would favor Republicans.
