ITV1's feature-length comedy drama Bike Squad won its slot on Friday night, January 4, pulling in 4.6 million viewers.
The 90-minute piece, about useless bobbies being forced onto bikes, picked up an average audience share of 20% between 9pm and 10.30pm, according to unofficial overnights.
Bike Squad beat a repeat of BBC1 drama New Tricks, which brought 4.2 million and a 17% share to BBC1 in the 9pm hour; while the 10pm news also held 4.2 million and a 19% share over 35 minutes.
BBC2's new series Extreme Pilgrim attracted 1.8 million and an 8% share from 9pm; while panel show QI captured 2.1 million and a 9% share between 10pm and 10.30pm.
Channel 4's clip show Greatest Comedy Catchphrases picked up 1.9 million viewers and a 10% share between 9pm and midnight.
Over on Channel Five, NCIS scored 2.2 million and a 9% share in the 9pm hour; while Law and Order: Special Victims Unit attracted 1.4 million and a 7% share from 10pm.
BBC1 comedy Jam and Jerusalem added 1.3 million viewers for the second episode of its second series, pulling in 4.8 million and a 19% share between 8.30pm and 9pm.
The launch episode attracted 2.9 million and a 13% share over 40 minutes on New Year's Day, although that wias in a later slot, from 10.10pm.
Jam and Jerusalem was also helped by the inheritance from soap EastEnders, which picked up 10.2 million and a 40% share over 30 minutes from 8pm.
ITV1's soap Coronation Street attracted 11 million and a 45% share from 7.30pm; while Corrie clip show The Funny Side of the Street picked up 3.7 million and a 15% share against EastEnders from 8pm.
BBC2's Natural World had 3.4 million viewers and a 14% share over 50 minutes from 8pm; while Channel 4's A Place in the Sun: Home or Away scored 1.7 million and a 7% share in the 8pm hour.
The concluding part of Five's World's Strongest Man bagged 1.8 million and a 7% share over an hour from 8pm.
