The tarnish on this 1809 London vermeil mustard pot was gently removed, leaving the remaining gilding intact. Harsher polishes would have removed the gilding.

These hallmarks were stamped on a 1760 Hester Bateman coffeepot. Notice how they have been worn down and are difficult to read because of the use of extremely abrasive polishes. If this pot continues to be poorly cared for the marks may become illegible, reducing the object's value.
