The Grey’s Anatomy actress has nabbed the lead role of Michelle in the net’s The Secret Lives of Wives pilot. The character is described as a grounded woman, the rock of her group of friends and a former college professor. She married husband Will in the hospital while supporting him through a serious illness and as they prepare to renew their vows in a formal ceremony, she learns he’s been keeping a shocking secret from her.

Wives is inspired by Iris Krasnow’s book by the same name, and explores the unvarnished truth behind the marriages of four different women, played by Michelle (Raver), Reed (Criminal Minds’ Salli Richardson), Keaton (Three Rivers’ Amber Clayton) and Jessie (Paranormal Activity 3’sLauren Bittner).

Jill Gordon (Five) will pen the pilot and serve as an executive producer alongside Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars). Krasnow is on board as a producer on the project, which is being prodcued by Lin Pictures in association with Warner Horizon Television.

Raver most recently played Dr. Teddy Altman for three seasons of ABC’s Grey’s. “I’ve had one of the best times of my creative career working on Grey’s with Shonda [Rhimes], Betsy [Beers] and the best cast on Television,” she tweeted in May after her character was written out in the season eight finale. “I feel fortunate and grateful to have worked with such an amazing team at GA. I am going to miss everyone!! And to the GA fans, you guys rock! I am sure S9 will be great!” (Her casting comes mere hours after her former _Grey’s_co-star Eric Dane also found his follow-up gig, landing the starring role in TNT’s Michael Bay pilot The Last Ship.)

Wives joins HR (centered on the uptight director of human resources at a global company), Renee Zellweger’s Cinnamon Girl (centered on four girls as they come of age during the cultural revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s in Los Angeles) and Witches of East End (centered on the adventures of a mother and her two adult daughters –both of whom are not yet aware that they are their family’s next generation of witches– who lead seemingly uneventful lives in Long Island’s North Hampton) in contention at the femme-skewing network.

Raver, whose other small screen credits include 24, Lipstick Jungle and Third Watch, is repped by WME and Mosaic.
