Bridget Hedison, the wife of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea star David Hedison and the mother of Alexandra Hedison, the wife of Jodie Foster, has died. She was 71.
Hedison, a producer who also worked on the 1980s Aaron Spelling shows Dynasty and its spinoff The Colbys, died Monday of breast cancer at home in Beverly Hills, her family announced.
Actress Alexandra Hedison (The L Word), also a photographer and home designer, married director and Oscar-winning actress Foster in 2014. Survivors also include Alexandra’s sister Serena Hedison, a film and television producer.
A native of Cape Town, South Africa, who attended school in England, Bridget served as an assistant to the producer and a production associate on the two Spelling shows at ABC. She also was a producer on The Last Tattoo (1994), starring Tony Goldwyn and Rod Steiger.
Later, she had a successful landscape design business, and her garden designs grace some of the most spectacular properties in Los Angeles.
Bridget and David met in 1967 in Positano, Italy, where he was scouting locations for a film, and they were married a year later at the Brompton Oratory in London. They moved to L.A. soon afterward and raised their children in Malibu and then Beverly Hills.
In addition to playing Captain Lee Crane on the 1960s ABC submarine series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, David played the scientist who got turned into an insect in The Fly (1958) and portrayed CIA operative Felix Leiter in the James Bond films Live and Let Die (1973) and Licence to Kill (1989).
