Grindstone Takes Scott Eastwood Thriller ‘Mercury Plains’ for North America (original) (raw)

Mercury Plains, the upcoming action-thriller starring rising name Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad, Fury, The Longest Road), son of Clint Eastwood, has a North American home.

Grindstone Entertainment Group said Tuesday that it has picked up the domestic rights to the film, which follows a young man recruited into a paramilitary unit to battle Mexico’s drug cartels, striking a deal with U.K.-based sales outfit Carnaby International. Lionsgate Home Entertainment will handle distribution.

Carnaby is set to screen extended promo footage of the film – which is currently in post-production – in Toronto ahead of its industry world premiere at AFM later in the year and delivery, expected for the first quarter of 2016.

Also starring Nick Chinlund (Con Air, Training Day) and Angela Sarafyan (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, The Immigrant), Mercury Plains is directed and written by Charles Burmeister (Columbus Day, Interview) and produced by Houston Hill (Virgin Alexander, The Devil’s Punchbowl) and Eric Watson (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain).

The deal was signed between Carnaby International’s director of international sales, Tania Sarra, and Grindstone’s head of acquisitions, Stan Wertlieb.
