An institution at Butler University, where the historic fieldhouse now bears his name over 40 years of service there, excepting the war years, when he was athletic director at Great Lakes Naval Station though often playing bigger schools that were among the nation’s best, he compiled 487 victories in 35 campaigns at Butler…known for his great knowledge of and ability to teach fundamentals…acknowledged as the dean of Indiana basketball coaches and the ‘father’ of many successful high school and college coaches…a member of the Helms Basketball Hall of Fame…former president of the National Collegiate Basketball Coaches Association in 1962 …received that group’s top award for his contributions to the betterment of the game of basketball…headed the NCAA basketball rules committee…inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame.
