HPIC: Highland Park Improvement Club (original) (raw)

A volunteer-powered Arts and Culture organization

Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) has been a community-owned non-profit for over 100 years with a long history of serving the community. HPIC has played a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, supporting local initiatives, and enhancing the quality of life for residents through social events, cultural activities, and community programs, with an emphasis on arts and music.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood by providing an inclusive gathering place, hosting neighborhood programs that celebrate the diverse cultures we represent, and fostering community engagement today and for future generations to come.

"HPIC is is open and welcoming to all and respects where everyone is in their life."

“HPIC is part of what makes this a community rather than just a neighborhood full of strangers.”

"Over generations, Highland Park neighbors created a sense of connection and a deep-rooted commitment to serving the needs of the community, anchored by our gathering space."

Rebuild with us

In 2021, a tragic fire was started outside the HPIC building, causing irrecoverable damage. The building was condemned, then finally torn down in 2024. The community mourned a gathering place that, in the words of one of our neighbors, “is open and welcoming to all and respects where everyone is in their life.”

But out of loss comes opportunity. The HPIC Board, along with our neighborhood community, are leading efforts to rebuild and bring this vital community hub back to life. The new building is designed to be a welcoming, inclusive space for all that will last the next 100 years and beyond.
