BREAKING: Prestigious IEEE Medal of Honor Prize Is Increased to $2 Million
“PISCATAWAY, NJ, 18 September 2024 – In a momentous move to recognize the world-changing impact that technology, engineering, and science innovators have on society globally, IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization, today announced that starting in 2025, the IEEE Medal of Honor monetary prize will be increased to $2 million.”
2024 IEEE President's Award
Each year the IEEE Awards Board recommends a select group of recipients to receive IEEE’s most prestigious honors. These are individuals whose exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions have made a lasting impact on technology, society, and the engineering profession.
The IEEE President’s Award is given to individuals, not necessarily members of IEEE, whose careers have exhibited distinguished leadership and contributions to the public. To those recipients not already members of IEEE, this recognition shall carry an entitlement of the privileges of IEEE except the right to vote and hold office therein.

TFA Spotlight: Mary Jane Irwin
Mary Jane Irwin has had a profound impact in two distinct fields: electronic design automation (EDA) and computer architecture. Her seminal research at the intersection of these two fields led to many advances in computer arithmetic, power-aware architectures, and automated processor design. Irwin’s research led to power-aware systems that focused on and expanded the design of high-performance, power-efficient, and multiprocessor systems on a chip.
Irwin received the 2024 IEEE Gustav Robert Kirchhoff Award “for contributions to electronic design automation and power-aware computer architecture ” at the 2024 IEEE/ACM Design Automation Conference (DAC) in June.
A special thank you to the award’s sponsor, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.
