Yus My Dear (TV Series 1976) ⭐ 6.1 | Comedy (original) (raw)
This was a follow up to previous ITV comedy hit ROMANY JONES where Wally and Lily Briggs have left their caravan park and now live in a council house . I have no knowledge of ROMANY JONES but do remember YUS MY DEAR being vaguely amusing and the show was relatively popular when it was broadcast in 1976 . After seeing it again recently one can only wonder why ?
The premise revolves around a bickering couple , the husband is a victim of being a hen pecked husband which is something of a cultural fantasy . Was there ever such a thing in reality ? Probably not but you've seen enough TV and films from his period to convince you married men had a really rotten life . Wally continually states " I ain't fick you know " which sums up most of the humour is ironic which is often a euphemism for " the scriptwriter can't be bothered to think up any funny lines "
The comedy situations usually involves Wally's brother Benny ( Played by Mike Reid ) taking some bird back to Wally's flat trying to have his wicked way with her then Wally and Lily turning up at the most inopportune moment and Wally going " Cor " while Lily gives Benny some GBH round the earholes while Benny holds his head in his hands giving it " What you trying to do me Pat " gurn that he made a career out of as Frank Butcher in EASTENDERS . In fact you'll probably have more laughs watching EASTENDERS
