Pechalat started skating at age 7 and switched to dance at age 10. Pechalat/Bourzat teamed up in 2000. They moved to Moscow to train under Alexander Zhulin from summer 2008 to May 2011 and then moved to the USA. Pechalat overcame a fractured nose in March 2012 before winning their first World medal. The couple missed the 2013 European Championships as he suffered a partial tear of the adductor muscle of his right leg on Jan 9, 2013. They switched coaches in spring 2013.
