Club BluJazz is Chicago's newest jazz venue. Located in West Town, the comfortable club offers live jazz six days a week (with blues on Sunday). I recently stopped in to catch the Dan Trudell Quartet. Dan is one of Chicagoland's best kept secrets. A whiz on the B-3, he also is masterful on the acoustic piano - appearing often with some of Chicago's top big bands. His partner-in-sound is often - as on this night - the incredible saxophonist Pat Mallinger - one of Chicago's finest players. Catching these two world-class musicians is always a treat, and when you have the exceptional George Fludas on drums, you can be assured of hearing some fantastic music. Young bassist John Tate held down the low end nicely as well. Dan's trio appears every Tuesday night at Club BluJazz - so be sure to check out these cats whenever you get the chance and also to get out to Club BluJazz and help support the scene while enjoying great music.
