Phnom Penh Crown, six-time Metfone C-League champions, have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of South Korean striker, Gisung Yeon.

“I’m very happy to join Phnom Penh Crown. The stadium and pitch are excellent, the team has many fans, the coaching staff are very good and I hope I can bring some stability and encouragement to help the younger players. I think the team has the ability to be champions, said the former Thai Premier League player who has agreed to a short-term contract with the former C-League champs.

“I also heard great things about the club from my close friends, Sim and Baek, who used to play here.”

Gisung from Suwon City in South Korea, won the national high school championships with his school in Yongin City, Baekam High School.

After two years at Honam University in Gwangju, he spent a year with Gyeongnam in the K-League, though his chances were limited so he headed to Thailand. There, he joined TTM Phichit in the Thai Premier in 2011, making an instant impact by scoring a hat-trick in one of his first matches. However, after suffering a dislocated foot, requiring two surgeries, he found himself sidelined for 20 months.

He returned to action in 2013 for a 4-month spell in the Thai Premier with BEC Tero, before a loan spell with PTT Rayong in Division 1 ended with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament knee injury.

After another long spell out of action, he spent 2015 with Yadanarbon in the Myanmar National League, finishing in second place and beaten cup finalists. Last year, he played the second half of the season with Bangkok Christian College in Thai Division 2, scoring 7 goals.

Crown, who boast an array of academy players in their starting eleven, will look to Gisung, aged 27, as an older and experienced head to guide their younger prospects.

Crown will hope their new addition will be available for selection for their coming Saturday afternoon tie against CMAC FC.

The club suffered a knock to their championship bid in their last league match, surrendering a two-goal lead to 2016 Runners-up Ministry of National Defense FC in a 3-2 loss. Their 17 points garnered so far this season sees the team currently occupy fifth in the C-League standings and a point below Nagaworld FC in fourth.
