Dusty Johnson planning run for Congress in 2018 (original) (raw)

Gov. Dennis Daugaard's former chief of staff Dusty Johnson who resigned in 2014 says he is now setting his sights on Washington DC.

KCCR's Kevin Larsen reports that on the heels of South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem’s decision to not seek re-election to Congress, Johnson says he is planning on running for South Dakota’s lone voice in Congress in 2018.

"Obviously it's an important time for our country, I want to make a difference, I've always wanted to make a difference, help out," he said. "I think I'd be an effective voice for South Dakota, so I am planning on running for Congress."

Johnson adds that he wants to be straight forward with South Dakotan’s.

Johnson adds that he does not know any other confirmed candidates at this point, but adds that he would not be surprised if other announce soon.

Johnson, who served six years on the Public Utilities Commission before resigning to join Daugaard's administration, went to work for Vantage Point Solutions, an engineering and consulting company in Mitchell, where Johnson lives.
