SEIGNIOUS, II, George Entered into eternal rest on the evening of July 3, 2005, Lt. General George Marion Seignious, II. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Lt. General George Marion Seignious, II, are invited to attend his funeral services in The Summerall Chapel, The Citadel, Thursday July 7, 2005 at ten o'clock. Friends may call in the Mark Clark Hall following the service. Interment, U.S. National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at two thirty o'clock. Lt. Gen. Seignious was born June 21, 1921, the son of Francis Pelmoin Seignious and Mary Moyer Rowbottom Seignious. After graduating from the Citadel in 1942, he became a decorated military leader in the US Army during World War II. He graduated from the National War College in 1961. His military career took him across the United States and to the Caribbean, Spain, Europe and Korea. He became president of The Citadel in 1974. Seignious served on the board of directors of numerous community groups: The Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce, Southern Bank and Trust Co., Trident United Way and the Roper Foundation. He is survived by two sons: Richard Paul Padgett and his wife Lynn of Beaufort, SC and George M. Chip Seignious, III and his wife Sally of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters: Pamela S. Chambers of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Mollie S. Johnson and her husband Whitney of Wellesley, MA; one sister: Kent S. Freeman of Charleston, SC; one step-daughter: Melanie Garnett of North Salem, NY; one step-son: Charles Fleischmann of Oxford, PA; 11 grandchildren: Paul, Mark, Anne, Lauren, Megan, Nicole, Anne Jordan, Kent, George, Alexandra and Tucker; one great grandson: Rich. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Citadel Development Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409 or to Bishop Gadsden Chapel Fund, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412.
