Apple Cider Vinegar | Official Teaser | Netflix
What happens when your health and wellness advice comes from a fraudster?
Inspired by a true story that was based on a lie, Apple Cider Vinegar stars Kaitlyn Dever as Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who claims to have cured her terminal brain cancer through health and wellness. Sounds unlikely? That’s because it is. As it turns out, Belle has never actually been diagnosed with — or cured of — the malignant brain tumor that she shares with the world through social media, the mobile app she develops, and its companion cookbook.
Created by award-winning Australian writer Samantha Strauss (Nine Perfect Strangers, The End, Dance Academy), who was living in Melbourne during the peak of the real-life Gibson’s success, the six-episode limited series serves as a cultural interrogation of the times, exploring the birth of Instagram; the allure and rise of wellness culture; peak girl boss start-up culture; and the age of innocence on social media with very few checks and balances in place.
The series is inspired by the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by journalists Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. Strauss was first introduced to Gibson’s story through Donelly and Toscano’s reporting in The Age, a Melbourne newspaper.

Rebecca Hall on Why She Has “Regret” Over Past Statement Apologizing for Working on Woody Allen Film
Rebecca Hall is looking back on speaking out about regretting working on Woody Allen‘s A Rainy Day in New York. https://t.co/Gi80ltgUtr
— The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) November 19, 2024
Rebecca Hall is looking back on speaking out about regretting working on Woody Allen‘s 'A Rainy Day in New York'.
In an interview Hall was asked how she now feels about those comments.
“I struggle with this one. It’s very unlike me to make a public statement about anything. I make the stuff, that’s how I am political. I don’t think of myself as an ‘actor-vist’, I’m not that person. And, I kind of regret making that statement, because I don’t think it’s the responsibility of his actors to speak to that situation."
Every interview about the film centered around Allen and Weinstein.
“Like, in this moment, it’s the most important thing to believe the women. Yes, of course, there’s going to be complications and nuances in these stories, but we’re redressing a balance here. So I felt like I wanted to do something definitive. But it just became, ‘another person denounces Woody Allen and regrets working with him’, which is not what I said actually. I don’t regret working with him. He gave me a great job opportunity and he was kind to me. I don’t talk to him any more, but I don’t think that we should be the ones who are doing judge and jury on this.”
When asked how she would respond if it were to happen now.
“I wouldn’t say anything – my policy actually is to be an artist. Don’t come out and state your stuff so much. I don’t think that makes me apathetic or not engaged. I just think it’s my job.”

Paul Mescal has said Saoirse Ronan "hit the nail on the head" when she spoke about women’s safety, in a clip that went viral.
In an appearance on the Irish broadcaster RTE's The Late Late Show, he said that she was "spot on" and that he was "not surprised that the message received as much attention that it got, because it's massively important and I'm sure you've had Saoirse on the show, she's quite often, more often than not, the most intelligent person in the room. [...] And it's also good that messages like that are kind of gaining traction, like that's a conversation that we should absolutely be having on a daily basis."
