banjololo: Fur Free Friday! Nov 27!
reposting a message from In Defense of Animals- let's make this march a big one! spread the word.
“Join IDA on Fur Free Friday, November 27th, the day after Thanksgiving, for a march in downtown Portland past all the locations that continue to sell fur. This peaceful, family-friendly march has historically been the largest annual animal rights demonstration in the area, where activists take over the streets of downtown to share a message of compassion about fur-bearing animals.
What: Fur Free Friday March
When: Friday, November, 27; meet at 11 a.m. (march leaves at 11:30 a.m.)
Where: Corner of SW Yamhill and Broadway (in front of Nordstroms)
This year more than ever, we need your help to make it a success. The city of Portland has changed their policy on police-escorted street closures for free speech events, and we must have at least 200 participants this year in order to do our traditional march in the street. If we can’t get 200 people out for Fur Free Friday, our march will have to proceed on the sidewalks, which may complicate the event and compromise our impact.
For at least the past decade the Portland animal rights community has taken over the streets of downtown Portland to raise our voices in unison with activists all over the country and world on Fur Free Friday. Please, do everything you can to join us and spread the word to get more people involved. We need to rally at least 200 people to make this year’s street march happen. Signs, banners and literature will be provided, just bring people! If you have any questions or to confirm your attendance, contact matt@idausa.org."

Hi everyone.
I just found this com and see that it hasn't been updated in ages.
I'm bored with my latest food fare and was hoping to get some ideas from people. I'm lacto-ovo and work long days so am looking for something quick and simple.
And here, this is something I like to make:

oddiophile: Vegetarian Nightmare!
You know that nightmare that folks often have? The one where you get to school or work, look down, and realize you forgot a key element of clothing, such as pants? I am having the vegetarian version of that.

I will keep this short as I have a BILLION questions...but I don't want to clog anyones friends' page.
I want to go vegan. I have been a vege for what...maybe 11 or 12 years. I already don't eat eggs, ice cream or yogurt. I rarely use milk. I do however have an OBSESSION with cheese. I know that there are SEVERAL other products that contain some animal by-product. Is there a link that lists all the ingrediants? Has anyone else made the transfer over? Any good ideas for it being successful?
Thanks in advance!

Vegan and Vegetarian Students at Portland State!
Hey, everyone, this is a message to let you know that we're forming a vegan and vegetarian group on campus at Portland State University this quarter, and we're looking for more members so that we can get it off to a good start.
We have a few things in mind for the group. First, we'd like it to be a social outlet. We can do the normal potlucks and film screenings, and with a little bit of budgetary luck we could also plan events like bowling or rollerskating, field trips to nearby farm sanctuaries, etc.
We'd also like to do outreach with leafleting and tabling at school and other events. There's a great vegan/vegetarian community in Portland, and we'd like to work both with them and within the school to create great events and great outreach. There's also a possibility of working with other vegan groups in town to plan a conference in town this summer, but that is not final yet. We'd also like the group to be pretty open – so that if you just wanted the social outlet or
just wanted the outreach, you could join for either reason. And we're open to vegan, vegetarian and veg-curious members (as long as they are respectful), though our charter members should be vegans or vegetarians.
This is a new group, so we are open to new ideas. We do have some basic philosophies, though. Primarily, we want to keep any group-sponsored leafleting or outreach positive and respectful. Check out Vegan Outreach's tips on effective advocacy: http://www.veganoutreach.org/advocacy/tips.html for more about what type of outreach we are interested in pursuing.
If you have any questions, would like more information, or to become a member, please get in touch with us at jenhowell77@gmail.com or by phone at (503)-235-2198.
If you are a PSU student registered for at least 8 undergrad credits, or 6 graduate credits, and would like to help us by becoming a charter member (this means signing the necessary paperwork to get the group started -- no further obligation), please get in touch as soon as possible, and include an e-mail address and phone number where you can be reached.
Thanks very much for your time. We hope to meet some of you soon!

hellobutterfly: yummiest veggie burgers
The last post reminded me of my favorite veggie burgers in Portland. They are made at New Season's deli. I have no idea if they are vegan or not. But they are scrumptious!
Where is your favorite place to get veggie burgers?

Warning.
Vegetarian Bocca Burgers have Enzymes in them.
Vegan is fine.
But this is not so wonderful.
