I'm asking people to set up their own poorinto for their local community and poor_in_mtl is the first to do so! yay. I like the way they modified their userinfo page but still kept it similar to ours.
I'm really glad that strychnyn created the Montreal group because if I manage to get out to Montreal, I will be able to enjoy a modest vacation. :-) Yes, poor people (like myself) can vacation too - they just have to watch their spending (just like at home) and get cheaper transportation and accommodation unless they have been saving for a while.
Please feel free to pass on the info below to others (and modify if you need to) and I'm thinking about pitching a story to the local paper(s) since I think it's a really valuable free community service. :-) If anyone has ideas about how to go about doing that, please let me know.

On April 17th, 2004 poorinto was created. poorinto serves Torontonians who are trying to live on as few dollars as possible.
My challenge to you is to create a community EXACTLY (or modified to suit your community) the same as the one I created.
This community challenge idea is based on: Freecyle but the poorinto wasn't (that was original! :-)
Here's what you do:
1. Make sure no one has set up a community for your area. Check the userinfo page to see if one exists in your community. If you don't see one, email me here: poorinto@xperiweb.net and I will give you up-to-date info.
2. Create a community: Use the
poorin
part of the community name and ADD your community name to the end of it. "to" is short for Toronto which is why I named it poorinto.
3. Copy and paste the user information but replace Torontonian with your community name and modify the info to make it relevant to your community. But please do not change the sentiment.
Note: You can add your own useful links, get rid of the ones that are local to Toronto and modify the userinfo page to adapt to your community needs. You can also take all graphics (including the small picture of the $ sign and scissors) and layout style if you like too. Also, please add the poorinto to your userinfo page. Thanks! :-)
After you have done that, comment on this entry or go over to my journal and post a comment (screened) with your lj community name. I will then create a site page, similar to Freecyle. I think this is a really worthy cause and I hope to see some amazing communities set up and based on this idea!!
