Teaching
Loz Kaye is an experienced teacher and workshop leader. He has worked in a variety of contexts including schools, further and adult education. The fields he teaches in are song, composition, choir, music theory and history.
Significant projects in the UK have included teaching at Salford University, LIPA, composition workshops based on the music of Harry Partch for the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Activ8 project at the Bolton Octagon, a residency with MA students at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and a 10 week course with Burnley Youth Theatre. He is an Associate Artist at the Conway Centre on Anglesey, Wales where he has lead residential courses for GCSE and A level students.
He has been actively involved in Horse + Bamboo Theatre's workshop and masterclass programme throughout its history. He has lead professional development courses in mask, visual theatre and song at the Boo, the company's home in Rossendale.
From 2001-7 Loz was the main music lecturer at GITIS Scandinavia Drama School in Århus, the Danish department of the highly respected GITIS Moscow. There he taught song interpretation, choir, music theory and history. As well as delivering and planning these courses, he was responsible for directing concerts and presenting students' work. The GITIS Scandinavia students have gone on to considerable success in theatre and film, and in high profile shows such as 'Les Miserables' and 'Spring Awakening'.
Other education work during his time in Denmark included courses and workshops for AOF Århus (adult education), Folkeuniversitet (the Open University), Den Ny Musik Skole (the New Music School), Sceneforum and SGK theatre foundation course. He was leader of the LAB experimental music course based at Daghøjskolen Fokus, Aalborg during 2002. This was an innovative technology based programme to develop students' creativity, drawing on elements of both popular and contemporary classical music.
