SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Sun Microsystems Inc. said Tuesday that the company is cutting as many as 3,000 jobs, given the delay in closing its planned merger with Oracle Corp. . In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Sun said its board approved a plan "to better align the Company's resources with its strategic business objectives," which includes laying off as many as 3,000 workers over the next 12 months. The company said it would incur charges ranging from 75millionto75 million to 75millionto125 million over the next several quarters in connection with the plan.
