Faculty Innovation: Mathematician Bridges Disciplines to Understand Modeling Limitations
What began with a focus on weather forecasting has evolved toward addressing errors in scientific modeling. In the collaborative environment of the Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, John Harlim combines applied mathematics and data science to develop methods for more-accurate scientific predictions.
Alumni Impact: Estate Gift Supports Women in Mathematics
Alumnus Robert Dezube and his wife, Gail, have established two new scholarships, which will support students majoring in mathematics, or intending to major in mathematics, who are involved in a group that promotes women in math or science, as well as students who are facing difficult personal and financial circumstances.
Science Strength: Students Find Their 'Why' through Community Learning
More than 250 student learning assistants (LAs) engage between 1,000 and 1,500 of their peers each week in math study sessions through our Learning Assistant Program, one of the largest in the country.
