Russia, formally the Russian Federation (Российская Федерация), is the largest country on Earth with an area of over 17 million square kilometers.

Russia is divided into one avtonomnaya oblast (autonomous region); four avtonomnyy okrug (autonomous province); two gorod ([federal] cities); nine kray (territory); 46 oblast' (region); and 21 respublika (republic).

In 2014 the Crimean Republic (Республика Крым) declared independence from Ukraine after a dubious referendum and joined the Russian Federation — however, this has not been internationally accepted.

Similarly, in 2022, Russia annexed various other Ukrainian provinces during their invasion and war in Ukraine (2022 -), again following sham referenda. None of these annexed territories are shown as part of Russia on Mindat.
