Named by A.A. Agakhanov, L.A. Pautov, E.V. Sokolova, F.C. Hawthorne, and V.Y. Karpenko in 2003 in honor of Alexander Veniaminovic Moskvin (Александр Вениаминович Москвин) (1897 – 2 March 1974, Leningrad, Russia), Russian geologist and member of the Tajik-Pamirs expedition (1932–1936). He was first to identify the Dara-i-Pioz alkaline massif.
