David Bowie left millions to family and friends

David Bowie's fans think the late singer might be having the last laugh after it was revealed he's left shares in a mystery company.

The 69-year-old star, who passed away last month after a battle with cancer, reportedly left his friend and personal assistant, Corinne Coco Schwab, $2 million, along with shares of stock in a company called Opossum Inc.

But it's unclear what Opossum actually does and the singer's lawyer is yet to comment, while fans have come up with a conspiracy theory about the name.

A post on Facebook from fan Jason Richford reads: "Now I'm not one for conspiracy theories as a rule, but I find this rather interesting.

This is an opossum (

"As part of Bowie's will, his closest confidante and personal assistant of 43yrs, Coco Schwab was left $2m and the shares of a company called 'Opossum'.

"The company has zero public disclosure, doesn't trade stock on any market and there is no information to be found on it anywhere."

He went on: "However..... an Oppossum is a small North American marsupial with an odd behaviour "a propensity to play dead when he doesn't want to deal with a situation confronting him. Intriguing!"

Fans have also been discussing the conspiracy theory on forums, including www.network54.com, where one fan wrote: "How peculiar. A company named after a critter who pretends to be dead when accosted."

Was David Bowie having a giggle?

Bowie, who died earlier this month, left £70million to close family and asked for his ashes to be scattered in a Buddhist ceremony.

A 20-page will, filed in New York under Bowie 's real name David Jones, confirmed half of his estate will go to supermodel wife Iman, 60, along with the home they shared in the city’s Soho district.

Film director Duncan Jones , 44 – the Starman's son from his first marriage to Angie Bowie – will receive 25 per cent.

Daughter Alexandria Jones, 15, is to inherit the other quarter and Bowie’s mountain home in Ulster County, New York.
