SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The phonograph records include "Minnesota Hail to Thee"/"This is My Country" sung by the Apollo Club of Minneapolis; two parts of the Minnesota Statehood Day Commemorative Ceremony: Walter Abel and the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra performing Herbert Krause's "Minnesota-Giant in the Wooded Earth" and speeches by former Minnesotans Dr. Lloyd V. Beckner, Dr. Paul E. Klopsteg, Carrol M. Shanks, and General Lauris Norstad; and Cedric Adams and Bob DeHaven's narrative of the promotional filmstrip "Everybody Ready? Let's Go." The filmstrip is also included in these records.
Contained on the audio files are coverage of the May 11, 1958 Centennial Statehood Day Commemorative Ceremony as recorded by WCCO Radio, including performances by Walter Abel, the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Apollo Club, and Judy Garland and comments by numerous international and distinguished guests, most notably U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles (4 audio files); sample coverage of the Statehood Week festivities by Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Swedish, and Finnish reporters (5 audio files); the November 12, 1958 Maria L. Sanford statue dedication ceremony in Washington, D.C., featuring Dr. James L. Morrill, the Carillon Singers, Senator Edward J.
