Description official descriptions
The Need for Speed series returns, this time reverting back to the 'chase' arcade experience instead of a racing simulation. Top speed racing is the name of the game, where you must outchase not just the opposing drivers, but the cops.
Choose from a selection of today's (and yesterday's) top sports cars, including the Ferrari F50, Porsche 911 and a range from the likes of Ford, Corvette, BMW, Lotus, Mercedes, Aston Martin, the McLaren F1 and a lot more.
The competitive race mode allows you to take on other drivers and beat them to the line. A selection of tracks allows you to not only dodge incoming traffic, but perform deadly jumps and stunts to receive points. These points, combined with the points recieved from your finishing position, can unlock new cars and tracks.
The Hot Pursuit mode combines all the major elements of the competitive mode with the chance to out run the cops. They will throw everything at you to try and stop you, including running you off the road, setting up road blocks and unleashing an attack helicopter equiped with missiles. Three busts by the cops ends the race.

I feel like I'm driving. No, I mean that.
The Good
Wow, this game offers a lot. There are 2 modes you can pick from. HOT PURSUIT mode (my favorite) and WORLD RACING. In HOT PURSUIT mode you can be the cop (use amazing cars to catch the bad guys; who can be your friends in 2 player mode. Oh, yes an Aston Martin V12 vanquish. Mmmmmmm a Lamburgini Marciealago.) ;oh sorry got carried away; have a quick race (where all your options are picked for ya. Ya don't even get to pick your car, YUCK!) play in challange mode (you get to pick everything, car and options, but watch out for the police) or play championship where you go through different levels to try and win cars and tracks. Championship level has all that same stuff but there are no cops to catch ya. But it's good for picking a fast car making no traffic on your track and going out there and seeing how fast you can get your car up to. Graphics are stunning. I mean Stunning. While youre driving don't focus on the car or the race just the scenery. You see. I told you, looks like you're driving cool!
The Bad
This game is a little confined. I would like to be able to go any where I wanted with good grphics. By the way did I tell you this game has good graphics. And the stunning cars, huh. Oh yeah sorry this is the bad. Well that's it.
The Bottom Line
7.5 out of 10.0.
If you're lookin for a game where you can drive fast, out run the cops, fly in the air after going over a bump and not having to pay the damage for how much the car gets wrecked, this is your game. Hey and if you hate a licensed car they are all on NFS: HP2 so don't fear ramin it in to a post tree, etc.

The Good
Let's see...the graphics are nice, the sense of speed is truly awesome (as long as you have the PS2 version--every other platform pales for some strange reason) and the cars are cool. I also like the branching championship progression. The sound effects are way cool, and the music really fits the action and attitude of the game. Sure the speed, sound, and physics are a bit exaggerated, but this IS an arcade racer. Besides, it's FUN. Many people forget that fun is the only reason to play games. Well, play this one, you won't regret it.
The Bad
Well, I would have liked to see more open environments (a la Midnight Club II.) The only other downside is that the intense speed may be too much for cranky old PC gamers. (Go play with your Thrustmasters, and leave the fun to us.)
The Bottom Line
Insanely Fast. Insanely Fun. Rent it. Buy it. Just PLAY it.

The Bad
Everything else. The gameplay is slow and dull. The graphics look like they've been made by a drunken 5 year old. And.. well, what can I say? It's probably the worst thing that EA have ever put into a box.
The Bottom Line
A "racing" game for girls.

Version differences
The PC, Xbox and GameCube versions are much more limited in comparison with PS2 version which was developed by Black Box Games instead of EA Seattle.
