Moerlina School – The Best Kindergarten and Primary School in Perth, WA (original) (raw)

Why Moerlina? What makes us so unique?

Moerlina School celebrates more than 40 years of progressive primary education in the Western Suburbs of Perth. Classes are small, outcomes are high, original thought is valued, persistence is rewarded, play is important, the natural world is central and learning is meaningful in our unique city school.

At the heart of Moerlina School is a culture of collaboration, support and mutual respect. A sense of security and belonging allows students to take risks in their learning, to challenge themselves and to have high expectations for what they can achieve. Learning goes well beyond the classroom, with students often heading outdoors and off-site to explore new places and experience new things that are relevant to their studies, consolidating and expanding their knowledge and understanding of the world.

In 2022, our school was invited by the Association of Independent Schools WA (AISWA) to contribute to a cross-sectoral early childhood publication, ‘_The National Quality Standard in Action: Western Australian Schools_’. The NQS Quality Area our practices were acknowledged in was ‘Collaborative partnerships with families and communities’. A special thank you to Vanessa Maine and Maria Marsh for participating in the interview process. This week we celebrate the launch of the publication.

Nature’s Adventurers

Varies
Every Tuesday throughout school terms
2024-12-03

In our Nature's Adventurers outdoor learning program, we combine the Pre-Kindy to Year One groups, and the children explore local parks and nature reserves. We have visited sites such as Mrs Herbert's Garden by the river and Lake Monger. We engage with a range of play types in nature, building our resilience, problem solving, collaboration, negotiation and risk assessment skills.

We acknowledge that this land that we live and work on is Whadjuk country and that the Whadjuk Noongar people are the traditional owners and custodians, who have a rich social, spiritual and historical connection to this country, which is as strong today, as it was in the past.
