Moran State Park (original) (raw)

With miles of woodland and lakeside hiking trails, numerous campgrounds with swimming and boating opportunities, and fabulous views from Mt. Constitution, this venerable park has delighted locals and visitors on Orcas Island for decades.

Mt. Constitution

Mount Constitution, rising nearly a half mile high above Orcas Island, is the highest point in the San Juan Islands. Sitting on the crest is a stone tower replica of Russian watchtowers constructed in the Caucasus during the 12th century. In the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed this tower and the road and bridges which lead to the summit of Mount Constitution. From the tower visitors can observe a 360 degree view of the surrounding area including shots of Mount Baker, the North Cascades, and the other islands of the San Juan Archipelago.

Three separate campsites located at the northern, central, and southern shores of Cascade Lake can accommodate visiting parties of numerous shapes and sizes; with sites available for primitive camping or RV parking, as well as the newly constructed “glamping” sites.

Trails

Over a dozen serene trails overlooking lakes, waterfalls, and the best views of the San Juan Islands. Take trails such as Little Summit, Sunrise Rock, or the West Boundary Trail for an afternoon ranging from light activity to daunting trecks.
