He worked with a number of big bands including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Jack Teagarden. Peanuts was very active during World War II, not only playing with Glenn Miller's Army Air Force band but writing several songs, which he also recorded on V-Discs for the soldiers overseas. He remained active well after the big band era, recording with Frank Sinatra, appearing on the Lawrence Welk television program, and touring the world with his friends Ralph Sutton, Jack Lesberg, and Max Kaminsky.
