Namesake<

Laramie is a tributary river of the North Platte River, approximately 280 miles long, in the states of Colorado and Wyoming. The river was named for Jacques La Ramie, a fur trapper who visited the area in the early 19th century.

This photo shows the damage to USS Laramie (AO-16), caused by a German U-boat attack, 27 August 1942, while steaming in convoy near the eastern end of Belle Isle Strait. Laramie was fully loaded with AVGAS, oil and general cargo including depth charges.
