Richmond, Va., June 4, 1862 Residence of G.S. Palmer, Franklin St.
To: Editor N.C. Standard - Sir: I enclose to you for publication the following official list of the casualties in my company, E, 4th Regt. N.C. State Troops. The counties of Beaufort and Hyde, being occupied by the enemy, I have no other means of communicating to their friends the intelligence of their fate. The company went into action on Saturday morning, the 31st of May, numbering fifty-five, including officers, non-commissioned officers and privates. Forty-five of this number were killed or wounded in the fight. This simple record is all the eulogy the company needs at the hands of its Captain.

Gentlemen in the neighboring counties having opportunities of sending copies of the Standard or Register containing this communication into Beaufort or Hyde, will please do so. The friends of the wounded may rest assured that they receive every kindness and attention from the citizens of Richmond, and many generous physicians from North Carolina are now here in attendance on them.
