Hampig Sassounian, a 22-year-old Armenian immigrant, was sentenced today to life in prison without possibility of parole for the assassination of a Turkish diplomat. He had been convicted to first-degree murder for shooting to death Consul General Kemal Arikan, 54, in an ambush attack.
