Come-hither glances and calculation are on display in ''Madonna,'' the four video clips that have been a major part of Madonna Louise Ciccone's rise as a new pop-music sex symbol.

Over a light, mid-tempo disco beat, Madonna sings in a piping voice about requited lust. She borrows Marilyn Monroe poses in ''Burning Up'' and dances and shows off her navel in ''Lucky Star.'' In ''Like a Virgin,'' she glides through Venice's canals and becomes the bride of a man in a lion mask.

''Borderline'' has a slightly more complex storyline. In it, Madonna plays a fashion model on location, smitten with a local boy; he ignores her until he sees her face on the cover of a magazine. The clip may well be a comment on the power of a well-crafted image.

Video cassettes are generally available in two formats, VHS and Beta. Some titles are also available on LaserVision video disks. Unless otherwise specified, prices cited are the manufacturer's suggested retail price for a VHS cassette; rental rates vary from store to store.
